As an extension of our commitment to delivering innovative business solutions, Sedgwick has established the Sedgwick Institute, an interdisciplinary community of thought leaders dedicated to elevating the dialogue around issues affecting the risk and benefits industry.
Under the aegis of the Sedgwick Institute, members will draw on their backgrounds in business, government and academia to conduct and publish scholarly research; develop forums for information-sharing; forge partnerships with industry entities; shape legislation affecting industry stakeholders; and drive industry innovation. The institute’s work is intended to benefit our valued clients, business partners and colleagues, as well as the recipients of services we administer, regulators and the general public.
Leading the Sedgwick Institute will be our own Christopher Mandel, senior vice president of strategic solutions. A past recipient of Business Insurance’s Risk Manager of the Year designation, Mandel has been a prominent player in our industry for more than 25 years. He is regarded as a pioneer in integrated risk management solutions and regularly shares his expertise through conference presentations, university scholar-in-residence programs and publications, including as a frequent “Risk Insider” contributor for Risk and Insurance.
We are excited to announce that Richard Victor, Ph.D., has been named the institute’s first senior fellow. Victor founded the Workers’ Compensation Research Institute, the nation’s leading workers’ compensation public policy research organization. A student of our industry for more than 30 years, he has published dozens of articles on workers’ compensation and disability issues and frequently presents on these topics. Victor earned a law degree and a doctorate in economics from the University of Michigan, where he was the George Humphrey Fellow in Law and Economic Policy. As senior fellow of the Sedgwick Institute, Victor will receive a grant to pursue research and provide thought leadership on industry issues.
Our vision for the Sedgwick Institute is to serve as an incubator for the best and brightest minds so they can advance the conversations that affect all the players in our industry, including injured and ill members of the workforce, insurance carriers, employers, property owners, third-party claims administrators, lawmakers and medical providers. Our institute thought leaders will work together to examine the complex challenges facing these various stakeholders and design innovative solutions to advance positive outcomes for everyone. Having distinguished experts of Mandel’s and Victor’s caliber on board sets a high bar for what we can achieve through the Sedgwick Institute.
Please watch the Sedgwick website and social media channels for forthcoming updates on the institute’s work to move our industry forward.
